From Fireworks to Pyro Drones: Our Journey to the Skies

Our story actually began with fireworks. We’ve been lighting up the skies since 1971, and over the years, we’ve fired displays all around the world—picking up some pretty impressive awards along the way. In fact, we still run the oldest fireworks shop in the UK, and yes, it’s still going strong today!

We’d had our eye on drones for a while. The first drone light show we saw in person was during the Covid era—a small but memorable moment that stuck with us. At the time, though, we felt the technology just wasn’t quite ready. Fast forward to 2023, and everything changed. While overseas watching a fireworks show, we were unexpectedly treated to a drone light display—and it absolutely blew us away. The colours were vivid, the movements were sharp and seamless, and the creative potential was unlike anything we’d seen. We were hooked. Not long after, we invested in our own fleet and launched our drone show company.

Star Symphony pyro drones in action

What sets our drones apart is the complete package behind them. They’ve been engineered from the ground up by an outstanding team who’ve built a fully integrated system: hardware, software, training, support, and ongoing innovation—all in one. And they didn’t leave a single detail out. Coming from a pyrotechnics background, we knew we wanted drones that could fly fireworks—and these do exactly that.

Audiences absolutely love our pyro drones. Don’t get us wrong—traditional fireworks displays are still incredible and we don’t see drones replacing them anytime soon. But drones are the next step, and when you combine both? Magic. At the recent UK VE Day 80 Celebrations, we saw it firsthand. The crowd reaction when our pyro drones lit up the sky in a 100-metre-high tribute was spine-tingling. That moment made it clear: people love fireworks, they love drones, but they adorepyro drones.

Of course, not all pyro drones are created equal. Just like cars—some are Ferraris, some are... not. Our system was developed by people who understand pyrotechnics inside and out, and they’ve embedded safety features directly into the drones. There’s no need for separate firing systems, which can bring added risk. If a drone doesn’t take off, lands early, or is out of position, the pyros are automatically disarmed. No guesswork. No manual disarming of the entire show. And yes, our system even controls the direction each pyro fires—imagine a ring of drones, each precisely angled to shoot effects outward in a perfect circle.

Our VE Day 80 show last night was just the beginning. We’ve got so much more planned and we’re beyond excited to bring our pyro drone displays to events across the UK and beyond.
